Watch Your Step

I noticed this creature swimming stealthily across the water while out on Lake Juniper. Slithering silently from lily pad to cypress tree the water moccasin is on the hunt but he must be careful as Osprey linger high overhead in perches with razor sharp vision and talons to match. I ease my kayak around the back side of an old, watered down stump jutting haphazardly from the lake and suddenly find myself in a Mexican standoff with the snake. His tongue flips fast as his piercing eyes lock onto me. I snap a few photos of this venomous snake and ease my kayak away, not wanting to press my luck. The snake seems to be of a similar mindset and carefully continues his journey. While I deeply respect snakes, or should I say: they freak me out, I do know they serve a purpose in our ecosystem. Despite my lack of affection for snakes, I couldn't help but notice that this snake's eyes were enchanting. My enchantment didn't last long, this snake quickly reminded me that life and death are in constant contention in the wild. Nature is a beautiful being but a vicious one as well. I hope you enjoy the photo and thank you for taking the time to view my blog. While you're here be sure to subscribe to my blog and share the post! Austin
